Over 60 people attended Stockwoods Taster Day on the 13th May and what a busy event it was at South Bristol Sports Centre, it saw taster sessions for various activities including Ballroom Dance, French & Spanish Conversation, New Age Kurling, Lawn Bowls and Musical Improvisation. There was a fantastic atmosphere throughout the day with everyone who attended keen to get involved and try out a new activity. As a result, every activity was very well attended and everyone really enjoyed themselves, including the tutors who all commented on what a nice day it was.
There were many highlights of the day but just one fond memory was from the musical improvisation class. The class involved people bringing their own instruments or using one of many of the shakeable or bangable instruments that the tutor had brought along. The aim was to all have a play together in just 30 minutes. Now this may sound like a recipe for mayhem but upon walking in after about 25 minutes, LinkAge staff were met by around 30 people playing a song together in perfect harmony. It was truly a magical moment that was felt by all. Come the end of the session instruments had to almost be wrestled from people’s hands to make way for the next session!
Everyone that signed up for an activity will be contacted in the coming months to discuss the possibility of starting up regular sessions for the new activities that were on offer.
Thanks go out to all the stall holders who all had very informative displays, Sally from Tesco who provided all the tea, coffee and biscuits, and lastly to the Imperial Bowls Club for opening up the green for attendants to try their hand at lawn bowls for the first time.
After such a success we are already looking forward to next year’s event!
