The Shirehampton Hub enjoyed a cracking Christmas Party on Wednesday 16th December. Joined by talented Bristol based entertainer John Troubadour at the Tithe Barn, we sang and danced the afternoon away. With songs from White Christmas to Santa Claus is coming to town, the Christmas classics were thoroughly enjoyed by all. Admittedly not everyone was quite in tune, mentioning no names…Community Development Worker Laura Burchett!
One attendee commented, "It has been a magical afternoon all over. Meeting old friends, doing a dance, doing the lot! A great start to Christmas."
It was a fantastic opportunity for everyone to enjoy live music, delicious food and catch up about the year that everyone has had; those that people have reconnected with and new friends people have made. Some chatted about the new activities people have particularly enjoyed, such as singing, climbing the high ropes during the Summer of Age and taking part in the line dancing flash mob at Broadmead!
One attendee remarked, ""I think we have a lot to thank LinkAge for. I know a lot of people here, who wouldn't be sat with the friends they are with now, without them."
We also enjoyed a delicious hot buffet from Paul Cook Catering. The menu of Coq au Vin and veggie goulash was decided by local older people and went down a treat with everyone. There was no sign of turkey and sprouts, which was a sigh of relief from all!
The afternoon concluded with a super Christmas raffle, organised by the Shirehampton advisory group. Goodies such as wine, truffles, fruit baskets and chocolate truffles were up for grabs!
One individual commented, "I have enjoyed it all today. Sing songs, seeing people you’ve not seen for years and catching up with old friends."
We would like to say a special thank you to John James for kindly financially supporting this event.
