On 6th and 13th December, 29 older people from the Henbury and Stockwood areas enjoyed Christmas lunches at The Old Crown Inn in Kelston and The Inn at Freshford. The older people had a variety of menu choices to choose from including roast celeriac soup, salted beef on toasted sour dough, roast turkey, salmon, Christmas pudding and passion fruit panna cotta.
The older people on the day really enjoyed themselves and expressed how they felt that the staff really took care of them and made their time extra special. One group even wrote a thank you card to show their appreciation to the pub staff.
This is the second year running that LinkAge has been supported by the team behind these pubs, as last Christmas the Colston Yard Pub and Restaurant in Bristol kindly put on two complimentary lunches for 100 older people.
Lucy Saunders from LinkAge said, ‘We are so grateful to the pubs for their support. We have had some lovely feedback from the older people who attended. Everyone really enjoyed themselves and commented on how good the food was.’
Alice Van Hees – General Manager at the Inn at Freshford said, ‘It was a pleasure for us to host the meal and we’re very glad that it went down so well. We are already looking forward to the next time that we can help such a wonderful organisation by hosting a lunch for local older people.’
Becci Foot – General Manager at The Old Crown Inn Kelston said, ‘We really hope everyone enjoyed their lunch at the pub, I know I can speak for the team at the Old Crown when I say we loved meeting everyone. It’s great to be able to get involved with a local organisation with a very worthy cause. We really look forward to hosting another event in the near future.’
