The longest running elders group might be The Evergreens club which runs on Wednesday afternoons but recently LinkAge discovered that there was one woman behind it. She's not only kept the group going for 34 years but she's also been very instrumental with her late husband for raising the funds for Easton Community Centre to be built! This group has as many local African Caribbeans as local white members.
Lil turned 98 last month. She is honorary president of the Evergreens club and is still putting out the chairs for members and bringing the tea.
Our wonderful LinkAge volunteer Tony has been collecting stories from our group members and decided to take Lil to the Record Office to bring back war time memories from the maps. Lil poured over the ‘unexploded bomb’ maps of Easton, recalling that her own home had been one with an unexploded bomb!
Lil recently picked up 2 awards for her long years of dedication to her local community at the Neighbourhood Partnership and the launch of the Celebrating Age Festival.
