Did you hear our Macmillan Prevention and Re-enablement Project Manager Sally Crocker and project participant Diana on BBC Radio Bristol?
Diana joined Project Manager Sally Crocker on Dr Phil Hammond’s show on Saturday 21st April 2018, to promote our upcoming Wellbeing Day in South Bristol, and also to talk about her story, and the impact that cancer has had on her life.
Four months ago Diana was diagnosed with a rare eye cancer, and since the diagnosis Diana began to experience feelings of being isolated and alone. After seeing an advertisement for an event in North Bristol she decided she would get in touch with the Macmillan Prevention and Re-enablement project to find out more.
Diana attended the North Bristol Wellbeing Day last month, which showcased activities, services and support that are available across North Bristol, and since then is already booked onto two courses at Penny Brohn and also plans on taking up some Walking, Singing, Dancing and Craft groups after her next treatment.
After attending the Wellbeing Day Diana said,
I feel very optimistic and uplifted that so much is available and my condition doesn’t have to hold me back.”
After the success of the last event, the Macmillan Prevention and Re-enablement project will be hosting another Wellbeing Day in South Bristol on Thursday 17th May 2018. The event is for people aged 55+ who are living with and beyond cancer, their carers and supporters.
Attendees will have the opportunity to try a variety of fun, creative and physical activities including Tai Chi, Seated Zumba and Walking Sports. They will also be treated to a free healthy lunch and refreshments; talks on the benefits of engaging in physical activity; a market place of stall holders; a goodie bag and most importantly, a good day out!
The Wellbeing day will run from 10:30 – 14:45 at Hengrove Park Leisure Centre, BS14 0DE. Attendance to the Wellbeing day is free, but booking is required. Call 0117 353 3042 to book your space today.
