On Friday 10th April LinkAge were pleased to welcome members of the Körber Foundation and the Berlin Institute to Bristol. They asked if they could visit LinkAge as they are investigating best practice role models across Europe, in order to look at what German communities can do to promote volunteering amongst their seniors.
Six months ago LinkAge and Clifton College joined forces to run an outreach project Clifton in the Community that would encourage engagement between younger and older people. The project would involve students from the college running weekly sessions with members of a local lunch club at the Parkway Methodist Church with the aim of building new relationships and learning from each other.
ITS time for creative over 50s to shine – Bristols Celebrating Age Festival which starts this autumn is calling for entries for its annual art competition.
A group of eleven unemployed young people in Bristol joined forces with local charities Paul’s Place and LinkAge to produce a radio show highlighting the impact of the Truth about Youth project in changing negative perceptions. The project is now in its fifth and final year.

Fishponds Friendship & Exercise Club has recently celebrated its 3rd birthday since its inception in February 2012. The group meet on a weekly basis for gentle chair based exercise, with a qualified instructor. The sessions also include a floor based game such as skittles, new age kurling, or shuffleboard. Although the club is activity based the group break between the exercise and games for a cup of tea and a biscuit. This proves to be a great recipe for social interaction!
