This year has seen the LinkAge team grow once again, with two new faces joining us. We’d like to welcome Amber Williams and Karen Bennett.

LinkAge Volunteer Sandra White, had an unexpected surprise for 2016. She was awarded the British Empire Medal in the New Year’s Honours List for services to elderly people in Shirehampton.

Stockwood has recently begun hosting a New Age Kurling group at the South Bristol Sports Centre. The very friendly and fun group, plays the newly developed game every Wednesday, from 11am – 12:30pm.

To start off this year’s Restorative project, we saw our first woodcarving workshop take place on Tuesday 26th and Wednesday 27th January, at Blaise Weston Court sheltered housing. Residents and pupils from local school Long Cross Gateway, worked together over the sessions to design and build a bench.

Since 2013, Goodgym have been pairing up runners with older people in Bristol, to help to combat isolation and loneliness. GoodGym runners Kim, 31 and Alice, 31, have both been paired up with local older people Joan, 91 and Brenda, 84, and both matches say that they would recommend this brilliant scheme to others.

Chair Aerobics has been running in Shirehampton for the past two years, with Clair Cusack leading this weekly session which is full of fun, laughter and music. The group has now sadly had to say goodbye to Clair, but are excited to welcome their new tutor Louisa.
