The Macmillan Prevention and Re-enablement project is working alongside a new Walking Badminton Club in Kingswood, to provide support for people who are living with or beyond cancer into becoming more physically active.
The Walking Badminton club, set up by the Bristol Jets and Bristol Sports Foundation, takes place on Thursdays, from 11:00am – 12:00pm at Kingswood Leisure Centre. The sessions are suitable for men and women aged 55+ of all abilities, with a ‘turn up and play’ element. The Walking Badminton group is fun, informal and very welcoming!
Walking badminton is a great way to start or return to playing badminton. We have a welcoming and fun session based on what our players want and would love to have you join us.” Thomas Marshall, Kingswood’s Walking Badminton Coach.
And this reflects in 60 year old new player Mike (pictured), who recently joined the Walking Badminton Club. Having played in his youth, Mike took Badminton back up after being diagnosed with Diabetes, and saw it as an opportunity to improve his fitness and socialise with others.
Set at a slightly slower pace, Walking Badminton is a great activity to try for newcomers and is set in a supportive environment with an experienced coach. You can even continue socialising after your game with a tea or coffee in the Clifford Suite, hosted by Kingswood Leisure Centre. The cost of the session is £3 for Forever Bristol members and £4 for non-members. If you are a cancer patient; have previously had cancer; are bereaved, or are a carer for someone with cancer, and would like support into physical activity, then please call our Macmillan team on 0117 353 3042
You will be sent a tailored information pack and Macmillan Taster Tokens enabling you to attend x5 free sessions.
